contribution to their field or to society/culture at large? | Margaret Cho began a lot of her work in the 90’s as a comedian being a voice for groups often oppressed. She was unafraid to speak about political issues of race and sexuality being a Korean American and openly bisexual. |
Why did you choose this person? What
about their story speaks to you? | I chose to write about Margaret Cho because she is so brave, powerful, and inspiring for so many people. She spoke up being quite alone in her intersectional identity, there is not a lot of Asian people represented in the LGBTQ+ community which leaves a lack of representatives and people to look up to for Asian LGBTQ+ people, Margaret did not really have people like her too look up to in her generation, and became that person for the generations after. |
How does this person inspire you? | The way Margaret Cho is so open in speaking about her beliefs and identity is such a powerful way is so inspiring. Alongside pursuing her career as an actor, comedian, author and more, Cho also prioritized being an activist and voice for the silenced. |
